About That Resolution To Read The Bible More...

Free Bible Application
Several months ago I began a different sort of Bible reading plan which I intended to review before now.  I found  it at Tim Challis blog and decided to give it a try.  It's called "Professor Horner's Bible Reading System" and the general plan is to read 10 chapters per day from 10 different books.  At first, I had great difficulty getting through the entire day's reading.  I'm in the habit of pausing to read commentary and references, which you simply can't do if you're going to get it done in less than three or four hours!  After several days, I got it down to about thirty minutes per morning.  I had some trouble keeping up during the holidays, but now that things are getting back to normal, I'm getting back into my reading groove.

The author of the program strongly recommends using a real Bible,  not a digital one.  He believes it helps you to remember both the content and the location of the passages better when you're holding a real Bible.  He's probably right, but I have to confess; I have found it so much easier to use a digital reader.  I found a free site that has the program already set up and ready to go.  All I had to do was register, and begin.  You can choose the version you like, (I like the NKJV) and adjust the font size if needed.  Another great feature is the audio version.  Sometimes when I get to the ninth or tenth chapter, I enjoy listening to someone else read while I follow along in the text.

The site has other reading plans too.  There are over 50 different plans to challenge almost any level of commitment.  I'd be interested to hear about any plans you've tried.  What was your experience?  Were you able to see it through, or did you get bogged down?

  1. I have the SAME problem reading notes. My husband bought me a thin NKJV that is JUST the Bible with no reference material. It helped more than words can say.

I actually wrote about this a bit today! I got "bogged down" with morning sickness! :)

  2. I don't like reading plans. I would rather meditate and work through a passage. My goal is to meditate paragraph by paragraph of the NT over the next 2 years. Reading plans leave me empty, guilty because I either covered the material to keep up or got behind.

  3. Hi Cathy!

I am passing along a Sunshine Award to you =)

So far, I am enjoying the reading plan my hubby chose for us ~ chronological with OT and NT each day.

  4. From 1980 to 2004 my read through the Bible in year plan was to simply read a 1/2 hour a day starting at Genesis and reading through to Revelation. I mostly used the KJV or NASB. I made a commitment to start again this year and so far so good :-)

  5. I've started Professor Horner's Reading plan back in August and have really grown to love it. It helps connect the Bible in ways I've not experienced with any other plans. Blessings!
