Five on Friday

It's been a while since I've posted a "Five on Friday."  It's been a long, cold, wet winter for just about everyone I know.  Palm Springs is a faded dream that almost seems unreal now.  Still, all in all, I have so very much for which to be thankful.  Even in the midst of my recent family drama, God's providence and grace have abounded toward me.  Here, in no particular order, are five terrific examples of things I can crow about this Friday:

#5  Green

After this long cold winter, and rainy gray spring, suddenly one morning, POW!  Everything is green and cheerful.  Hallelujah!  I LOVE GREEN!

#4  Jicama
I discovered this odd... thing while trying to replicate a Thai dish at home. It's crunchy like a crisp apple, and very mildly sweet. I'm already thinking of dozens of recipes into which I can add Jicama (pronounced: HE-kuh-muh).

#3  A Healthier Chip

All natural, no:  gluten, cholesterol, trans fat, preservatives, nor MSG.  These cracker-ish chips are really good.  I picked up a bag at Sam's Club for around $5.00, which sounds kinda high, but it was a really big bag.  Visit their web site for a coupon.

#2  Rural King

You just can't beat a store that gives you free pop-corn to munch on while you peruse through the chick department.  Where else can you buy sausage casings, hip-waders, shrubbery, shampoo, and poultry under one roof?  I have a nagging feeling that I've featured Rural King before, but I don't care.  They rule!

#1  True Friends

One dreary damp day when I was feeling mighty low, I walked out of my front door to find this bundle of sunshine sitting on my porch.  Underneath was a zip-lock bag containing a handwritten note from a friend letting me know she was praying for my family.  Words just can't express how much that meant to me.

  1. Good Stuff:)

I just noticed the green here, too. It is wonderful. I've also tried those chips, they are good.

I've never been to a Rural King, but now I'm jealous. And the flowers, just gorgeous!

    Have a great weekend.

  3. I'm glad you clarified the chick pic. I thought for a minute it was a KFC popcorn chicken stand :-)

  4. This is an awesome Friday five! Thank you! I need to stop by more often. I also need more hours in the day. Do you think Rural King might have some?

  5. Love the daffodils :D

And jicama! Works well in Chinese food in place of water chestnuts.

Hi Melanie, thanks for stopping by.
Ron, your dry wit never disappoints.
Penned Pebbles, Yes. They do... I'm sure of it.
Grasshoper, I'm on it! If there's any left. I keep slicing off a chunk for snacking.
